The importance of bridging the gap between industry and academia is known to all. More often, the research pursued by academia leads to significant strides in the industry and changing trends in the industry need to be reflected in the academic curriculum taught at Universities/ Colleges. However, going by the present scenario, the latter doesn’t seem to be happening as dynamically as it’s supposed to be.

Gone are the days when one should write thousands of lines of code (if not more) to design a simple web page. These are the days when on line content could be managed just with a click of the mouse!

With the emergence of Android OS, smart phones have started expanding their horizons like never before in history!

Two Day Workshop at Vignan University, Guntur

Swecha organized a two-day workshop on PHP and Drupal at Vignan University, Vadlamudi, Guntur on the 1st and 2nd of March, 2013.

The following topics were covered during the workshop:

1. PHP Scripting

2. Drupal - Content Management System

3. An Alternative Paradigm of Computing- A Free Software Perspective


The workshop was well attended by over 100 students from engineering colleges in and around the University.

Mr. V. Srikanth, Developer at Swecha, Mr. G. V. S. Giri, Developer at Swecha and Mr. Ashish. A, Member, Executive Committee, Swecha handled the sessions and

interacted with the students. The workshop was well received by the students and the students evinced their interest to form a GLUG and continue their learning

and enhance their understanding of various Free Software Technologies.

The workshop was well coordinated by Mr. Raghunath, HOD, Dept. of IT, Vignan University, Mr. Naresh, Asst. Professor, Dept. of IT, Vignan University and their team.

A Two Day Workshop on Octav and Scilab

Swecha conducted a Two day workshop on Octav and Scilab at Narasaraopet engineering college on February 7th and 8th with participate of 156 members from Electrical and Ectronics Engineering. 


A three days workshop was conducted in Sanketika institute of technology and management  at vizag on Feb 6th, 7th and 8th. Sessions are on free software philosophy, python and Drupal for 43 participents from four engineering colleges.

Three day workshop held at Bonam Venkata Chalamayya Group of colleges

A three day workshop was held at Bonam Venkata Chalamayya group of colleges on 4th, 5th and 6th of December. Around 110 students from eight different colleges of East Godavari and West Godavari attended the workshop.The workshop focused on training students how to use FOSS technologies which was dealt in the morning sessions and preparing them for their placements which was dealt in the afternoon sessions. The morning sessions included "The Philosophy of Free Software" ,"GNU/Linux System Administration " , "Introduction Multimedia Applications" , "Drupal(Content Management System)" .The afternoon sessions included a rigorous Interview model tests consisting of written tests, Group Discussions on contemporary issues etc.
