Swecha organized a five day workshop on various Free Software technologies from June 30, 2010 to July 4, 2010 at MLR Institute of Technology, Dundigal, Hyderabad. 40 Students from various Engineering and MCA colleges across the state attended the workshop. The workshop dealt with training the students for these 5 days on - Preparing GNU Labs (Free Software Labs), Scripting Languages like Shell & Python, Content Management Systems (Web Technologies) like Drupal and Graphics Tools like Gimp and Inkscape and the Art of Programming. These sessions were taken by experts from Industry who are working on respective technologies which proved to be an asset for the participants.

The main aim of the workshop was to give an insight of how a Free Software developer community works to the students. Free Software Movement of India supported the workshop conducted by Swecha. We believe this workshop will help students to become passionate developers and contribute to ever growing Free Software community. The workshop also included a session on evolution of web as Web 1.0 to Web 3.0. Along with the technical sessions various non-technical sessions were also conducted on concepts like copyrights and patents.

By the end of the workshop students got an insight into various technologies and their implementations. Not just technology, students also had a good time playing sports and actively participating in discussions on varied topics from copyrights & patents to development of India using Free Software.

In the workshop, the students had also prepared an action plan on inaugurating GLUGs in their colleges. The students were happy to meet and work with free software users across the state and got themselves transformed into complete free software activists.
